The Future of Mobile Journalism has Arrived at NAB 2009

VeriCorder Technology is pleased to announce the official release of its groundbreaking software and hardware package for radio broadcasters and podcasters.

Thereʼs been a great deal of talk about improving mobile journalism. Today, VeriCorder unveils a simple, inexpensive package of software and hardware that makes mobile journalism practical for radio broadcasters and podcasters.

Poddio software transforms a smart phone into a full-featured sound editing suite. The first version was released on iPhone in February. That version allowed users to record and edit news stories or music, and upload the finished audio file to a computer.

The version being unveiled today in Las Vegas allows reporters to also send their completed stories wirelessly, either by FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or by email. VeriCorder is also releasing a new microphone, the VeriCorder Mini Mic, that plugs into the headphone jack of smart phones requiring a four-pin connection. The mic vastly improves recording quality for a variety of mobile devices, including higher-end models of Blackberries, Nokia smartphones, iPod Touch, and iPhone.

“Poddio is incredibly simple to use, and very inexpensive, but itʼs also very powerful,” says VeriCorder president Gary Symons. “The job of a radio reporter is to record interviews, edit them into a story, and send them to their station for broadcast. Right now, thatʼs very difficult to do.

“Basically, itʼs a full broadcasting kit that fits in the palm of your hand.”

Poddio was chosen by BNET TV as one of the Top Ten New Technologies at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. “We believe this is a game changer for radio broadcasters,” Symons says. “Itʼs faster, itʼs cheaper, itʼs easier to use, and you can file stories anywhere you have a cellphone connection.”

To see Poddio in action, visit the VeriCorder crew at their booth in the Content Commerce Pavilion in Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, Booth C155V. Or, go to the VeriCorder website to see a short video tutorial on how to use the Poddio editing suite.
